The noted musician, writer and revolutionary, Fred Ho transitioned this past Saturday.  He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.

I wrote a piece about Fred Ho that i hope will be published later this week.  I will repost it here.  But i felt that i needed to say something at this moment about the loss of someone i had known since the fall of 1975 when he and I were both undergraduates at Harvard College.

Fred was eloquent and inflammatory; he was pointed and passionate; and most of all, he was deeply committed to the fundamental social transformation of this planet.  Toward the end of his life, in addition to his outstanding cultural work, he devoted a great deal of attention–both practical and theoretical–to the need to build an ecosocialist movement.  Specifically, he believed that there can be no progressive end to the toxicity of capitalism through a socialism that ignores the environment.  In fact, addressing the environment necessitates a fundamental change in the economy.

We will miss Fred.  He was always pushing the envelope.  Whether you agreed with him or not, you had to love him.
